Privacy and safety
A map of where cars turn up has to be careful with people. This page covers what we keep, what anyone else can see and what you control. The legal version is the privacy policy.
What we store
- Your account: email, username, display name, and your password (only as a hash).
- Your profile, if you fill it in: avatar, bio, home city, garage.
- Each spot: the blurred photo (as resized copies, never the original), the car, your caption, how it was captured, and the precise place and time you took it, which stay private.
- What you do here: likes, comments, follows, RSVPs, ID votes and reports.
What other people see
- On a spot
- The photo with your blur, the car, caption, rarity and points, the area name and the day
- On the map
- Your spot as part of a ~1 km cell’s glow, 24 hours after you post
- On your profile
- Username, display name, avatar, bio, home city, garage and stats
- Never
- Your email, exact locations, exact times, who you follow beyond the totals, or your RSVPs
One exception to “never exact”: a spot in a listed event’s gallery shows you were at that event in that window. See Event galleries.
Your exact location
The app records where you were when you took the shot. We use it to pick the cell and the area name, and to check a verified capture. That point stays on our server, and only you see it, on your own spot. No screen or API gives it to anyone else. When you delete a spot, its point and time are rounded off straight away.
Plates and faces
You mark plates and faces before you post, and the server burns the blur in. It never keeps the unblurred photo. How it works: Blur plates and faces.
The terms ask you to blur them, and rule out using Redline to track down a person or a car. If a spot shows a readable plate or a face, report it with the Privacy reason.
Training consent
“Help train India’s car-recognition model” is a separate opt-in. It’s off by default and never pre-ticked, and saying no changes nothing else. What it covers: the dataset and the training section of the privacy policy.
What you control
- Delete any of your spots, any time. The photos go at once.
- Delete your account in the app (Settings, then Delete account) or on the web at redlineapp.in/delete-account.
- Block a spotter and you stop seeing each other.
- Report spots, comments and users. A moderator reviews every report.
- Switch training consent on or off whenever you like.
No ads, no selling data
