The map

The car culture map shows where cars turn up across Delhi NCR and which meets are coming. It never shows where one car is right now.

1 km cells

The city is cut into a grid of cells about 1 km across. On the map, a spot is part of its cell’s glow. There are no pins for spots.

The area name on a spot, like “Hauz Khas” or “Cyber City, Gurugram”, comes from the middle of its cell, so it gives away no more than the cell does. When the nearest named place is 4 to 12 km away it reads “Near” plus that place, and beyond that just “Delhi NCR”.

The 24 hour delay

A spot shows in the feed as soon as it’s posted, with its area and day (Today, Yesterday, a weekday or a date). It joins the map 24 hours later. By then the car is long gone, so the map is a record of where cars gather over days and weeks.

That’s also why a cell can say “Nothing spotted here yet” when you know someone posted from there this morning.

Reading the heat

Each cell glows by how much was spotted there, weighted by rarity. A few rare cars burn hotter than a car park full of daily drivers.

Opening a cell

Zoom in a few steps (the map tells you when) and tap a glowing cell. A panel lists what was spotted there, newest first, and each one opens the full spot. The “Busiest cells in view” list in the filters opens the same panels, keyboard included.
