Community ID and the dataset
Other spotters check that a spot is the car it says it is. That keeps the points honest, and it builds a set of photos of cars on Indian roads that people have actually checked.
How ID checks work
Every spot shows its ID status: ID 1/2 while it waits, ID confirmed, or ID disputed. On someone else’s spot you can tap Confirm ID, or suggest a different model from the catalog. You can change or withdraw your vote, and you can’t vote on your own spot.
- 2 confirmations
- ID confirmed
- 2 suggestions of another model
- ID disputed: a moderator decides
- A moderator confirms or corrects it
- That’s final, and points are worked out again if the car changed
- A custom name (“Can’t find it?”)
- Votes can’t confirm it. Suggestions send it to a moderator
Why it matters
Epic and Legendary points wait for a confirmed ID (pending points), so a big score needs more than one person’s word. And a confirmed ID is a label you can trust, which is what the dataset below needs.
Your ID record
Your profile counts how often you voted for the model a spot was finally confirmed as. Suggesting the right car counts too.
The dataset
The long-term plan is a car-recognition model trained on Indian roads, from spots the community confirmed. There’s no Redline model yet. If you want your spots to help build one, switch on “Help train India’s car-recognition model”. It’s off by default.
- Signing up on the web
- An optional checkbox, never pre-ticked
- In the app
- A step after sign-up, and later Settings, then Research
- On the web
- Account menu, then Model training
What goes into a training set
Included
- Only ID-confirmed spots, and only from people who have the switch on when the set is built. That includes their confirmed spots from before they switched it on.
- For each spot: the stored photo with the blur still applied and no metadata, the confirmed make and model, tier, niches, city, the ~1 km cell, whether it was verified, how the ID was confirmed, and where the blur boxes are.
Never included
- Demo content, or photos credited to someone else.
- Your username, display name, email or anything that links back to your profile. Every image gets a new random name in every set.
- Your exact location or time, captions and comments.
Sets are used only to train and test our own models. We don’t sell, license or share them.
Switching it off
Switch it off the same way you switched it on. From then on your spots are left out of every set we build, and deleting a spot or your account does the same for those photos.
